When it comes to planning a motoring holiday most people like to save as much money as they can on essential items so they have plenty left over for the little luxuries that can make a real difference.  Choosing budget car insurance is one way to save money but there are plenty of other ways you can so that you have more left over to sport yourself on the holiday.

One of the best ways to save money is to have a budget and you can only do this if you are willing to sit down for a few hours and make a detailed plan of your holiday.  There will be the usual expenses like accommodation, petrol and food, but you will also have a love of discretionary items to choose between.  Things like the kind of meals you want to eat, the type of accommodation you choose, and the sites you wish to visit.

Here are some tips that will help you get the best out of your holiday budget.

  • Stick to your budget.  It goes without saying that if you have taken the time to develop a budget you should stick to it.  If you have done your planning properly, you will have a daily limit set and it is important that you are true to yourself and only spend the amount of money you have allocated each day.
  • When it comes to accommodation, try to stay away from the main tourist drags and look for some backstreet options.  You'll be surprised at how much you can save when you have to walk a little further.  Think of it as an exercise in thrift as well as some exercise for your body!
  • Eating out can be an expensive option no matter what your budget.  One of the best ways to find the cheapest and best cafes for your meals is to look where the locals go.  This is especially true if you are travelling overseas, but if you are travelling within Australia on a motoring holiday why not ask some of the locals for some suggestions.  You are sure to discover the best and cheapest options this way.
  • Bank transaction fees can add up over your holiday period because of the frequency of withdrawing money from automatic teller machines.  This is where your budget can really help you because if you only withdraw your daily budget you will only be need one transaction a day.  This alone can save you several dollars over a period of weeks.
  • Try to do your shopping in local supermarkets.  Rather than going to a cafe or restaurant for every meal, why not do some shopping at the local supermarket and buy your own groceries to prepare meals in your room.  Simply by taking this cost saving step you will have more left over for some luxuries at the end of your trip.

Don't bother about trying to save money on budget car insurance when there are plenty of other ways to save money for your holiday.  Insurance is one area you need to be certain that you are getting the best deal and that means getting the right cover, not just the cheapest.
