We get that sometimes you might need a bit more cover to suit your situation. Which is why, on top of our standard car insurance policy inclusions, we offer a suite of optional covers. Not all options are available in all circumstances, just ask us and we will see if we can help.

Optional hire car for Other Insured Events

Not being able to drive your car for a while can be a hassle. Add this optional extra onto your Comprehensive or Third Party Fire & Theft policy to get a hire car for up to 14 days for a range of other insured events (even if you’re at fault).11

Your choice of repairer

While we have an extensive network of repairers, you can also choose your own. Just let us know if you want to be able to select who fixes your car if you ever need to make a claim.10

Campervan/motorhome contents upgrade

If your car is a campervan or motorhome, choose this optional extra with your Comprehensive or Third Party Fire & Theft policy to cover the contents inside up to $1,000 per item if they’re lost or damaged in an insured event.10

Lost or damaged business items

Choose to add business items onto your Comprehensive or Third Party Fire & Theft policy and get covered for up to $400 per item and $2,000 per claim if they’re lost or damaged as a result of an insured event.10

Reduced excess for windscreens

Chipped and broken glass can be a hassle, and costly to repair. We offer reduced excess for claims that solely involve windscreen, window glass or sunroof glass.10

Our Third Party Property Only car insurance is the most basic level of cover we offer at Youi. This car insurance policy covers you in the event you cause damage to someone else’s car or other property, and also includes:

  • After you’ve paid your excess, up to $5,000 cover against uninsured third parties if the third party was completely at fault for the incident and you provide the required details.7
  • Legal liability up to $20 million.8
  • Up to $1,500 per person for counselling services for you, listed drivers and household members after an insured event.8

We know that your car and the way you use it is unique, so it’s worth you considering your circumstances when looking at car insurance.

With this in mind, we’ve created our Comprehensive, Third Party Fire & Theft and Third Party Property Only car insurance covers. We also offer NSW CTP and SA CTP insurance.

Choosing which car insurance to buy can be complicated, so we’ve tried to make it as simple as possible. Check out our different types of cover to get a better understanding of what’s on offer.

The main thing you can do is to increase your basic excess. You may be offered the option to select your basic excess amount. A higher basic excess could mean a reduction in your insurance premium.

There are certain factors that could increase the cost of your car insurance policy. Some of these factors include:

  • Your car. Certain types of cars are more expensive to insure.
  • Your driving habits. This includes your driving history and how much time you spend driving.
  • Other drivers’ habits. The driving history of other drivers added to your cover may impact the cost of your policy.
  • Where you live. The suburb you live in could impact the cost of your premium.
  • Where you park your car. Park your car on the street? In a carport? In a locked garage? Where you park is a factor taken into account when calculating your insurance cost.

At Youi, we offer a number of car insurance options for you to choose from.

Comprehensive Cover
Covers loss or damage to the car for insured events as well as your liability for any damage caused by the car to a third party's property.

Third Party, Fire and Theft
Covers your car for loss or damage caused by fire, theft or attempted theft. There is also liability cover for any loss or damage caused by the car to a third party's property.

Third Party Property Only
Covers liability for loss or damage caused by the car to a third party's property.

We also offer NSW CTP insurance and SA CTP insurance for people who live in those states.

The cost of car insurance in Australia is variable based on a wide range of circumstances, including you, your car and the level of cover you choose.

As you would expect, Comprehensive cover will cost more, but it provides you with more benefits and covers a wider range of situations. You can also ask us about adding optional extras, which can provide additional cover but usually increase the cost of your premium.

Your car, age, driving habits, where you live, and where you park your car may also impact how much your insurance costs.

When you lodge an insurance claim with us, you're usually required to pay an excess. There are different types of excesses that may apply to your claim and these will appear on your policy schedule.

Basic Excess

The basic excess is the amount you must pay in relation to each and every claim made under your policy. You may get the option to select the amount of your basic excess, which will be shown on your policy schedule. Where the incident is completely the fault of a third party that you can provide their full name and two of either their phone number, address, driver’s licence number, or the registration number of their vehicle that was involved in the incident, we will waive payment of the basic excess.

Additional Excess

We may require an additional excess to be paid in certain circumstances under your policy. The exact situations where this would apply and the amount of the additional excess will be shown on your policy schedule.

Driver specific excess

If we accept your claim for an insured incident covered by your policy where the car was driven with your or a listed driver’s permission, or by any person who meets the criteria set out in the excesses section of your policy schedule, a driver specific excess becomes payable. This could include, for example, unlisted drivers (i.e. drivers not noted as a regular or listed driver) or young drivers (whether or not they are noted as a regular or listed driver). The criteria for the driver specific excess and amount of this excess will be shown on your policy schedule.

Where they are applicable, the driver specific excess amounts will be added to any other excess amount that may apply to the claim. These excesses will not apply when the car is being driven by a service provider.

For some cars, we may restrict cover to the listed drivers and the regular driver only. If cover is restricted in this way, there is no cover for any other driver, irrespective of excesses, and it will be clearly shown in the special conditions section of your policy schedule.

Reduced basic excess for windscreen claims

You may be given the choice to pay extra premium to reduce the basic excess that applies to claims that solely involve your windscreen, sunroof or window glass. The excess that will apply to windscreen claims will be shown on your policy schedule.10

One Excess

If you make a claim for the same incident on more than one Youi policy, you’ll only need to pay one excess. The incident must be a single event that occurs at the same address and time, and the applicable excess will be the highest excess amount noted on the relevant policies.

It’s up to you, but depending on your circumstances, any time can be a good time to switch insurers, especially if it means being in better hands, saving more money or getting better value from your policy. At Youi, it could mean all three. Get a quote with us anytime to see if the time is right for you to make the switch.

At Youi, we categorise the people who can drive your car in the following ways:

Regular Driver
The person who drives the car most often or more than anyone else and is noted as the regular driver on your policy schedule.

Listed Drivers
The people who are legally allowed to drive your car, and are noted as listed as drivers on your policy schedule. The regular driver is also a listed driver.

Unlisted Drivers
Unlisted drivers are people who have permission from you or your listed drivers and are legally allowed to drive your car but are not listed as drivers on the policy. If you decide not to list a driver, we may require an additional unlisted driver excess in the event of a claim under your policy. For some cars, we may restrict cover to the regular and listed drivers only, irrespective of excesses – this will be clearly shown as a special condition on your policy schedule.

There are other people who could drive your car and, depending on whether or not they are listed on your policy, an additional excess may apply. Other drivers include:

Test Driving
There are quite a few conditions around this in the PDS, but generally, you are covered as long as you take all reasonable steps to make sure that the car is safe, including going with the prospective buyer if a test drive is required, and taking a copy of the front and back of the person’s driver’s licence.

You can choose between insuring your car for market or agreed value when you have a Comprehensive or Third Party, Fire & Theft insurance policy with us.

Market Value:
Market value means the reasonable and expected cost of replacing the car with a car of the same or a similar make, model, mileage, and condition, immediately before an incident covered by your policy. Market value includes any factory fitted accessories. Market value does not include any warranty costs, future stamp duty, transfer fees, or allowance for dealer profit.

Agreed Value:
A specific amount we agree to insure for at the time of loss, which is shown on your policy schedule. This includes any accessories and modifications fitted or made to the car, unless they are disability or campervan/motorhome modifications. The agreed value is noted on your policy schedule.

Sometimes. Under our Comprehensive and Third Party Fire & Theft policies, we may insure cars that have been legally modified to improve performance or handling, provided you tell us about them and we agree on any specific amounts that are applicable. Examples of legal modifications we may cover include:

  • Suspension (raised or lowered)
  • Engine (replacement, tuning, turbo, etc.)
  • Exhaust
  • Disability modifications such as lifts and ramps

We also may cover the following additions to your car: baby seats, personalised plates, towbars and window tinting.

We need to know how the car is used and categorise the use as follows:

Private Use
This means a car that is used for social, domestic and pleasure purposes, including driving to or from your or a listed driver’s regular place of work or study.

Business use
If your car is used as an essential part of any work or business, or is used to generate income or reward, we may also be able to offer you cover. We will ask you about the way you use your car during the quote.

You can securely log in online to view and manage your policies, update contact details, make a claim and track a claim linked to your policy at any time on our website by clicking ‘Login’.

We accept any current driver's licence, including an international licence, provided it is recognised by Australian law as valid.

Youi offers CTP Green Slip insurance cover in NSW only. To register your vehicle in NSW, you'll need to have CTP Green Slip Insurance, and you can choose who you purchase your CTP Insurance from.
