All motorcyclists need Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance to be able to ride on NSW roads.10 This type of insurance will protect you from the financial impact of causing injury or death to others as the result of an accident. You can purchase CTP directly from a licensed insurer or through a variety of agents and outlets and online. Youi offers CTP insurance for riders in NSW.

When you choose Comprehensive or Third Party Fire & Theft cover for your motorcycle, you can choose whether you want the Market Value or an Agreed Value.

Whether or not you use your motorcycle for business purposes is something we will determine by asking you relevant questions during the quote process. Should we accept cover, your policy schedule will show that your cover extends to business use. You are always covered for private and domestic purposes.

Up to $1,000 per claim for damage to helmets and riding gear which belong to the rider are covered if damaged in an insured event (other than theft, unless they are stored in a secured storage compartment).6 This cover is included with our Comprehensive and Third Party Fire & Theft policies. If you have Comprehensive or Third Party Fire & Theft cover, you also have the option of upgrading from the standard riding gear cover up to a maximum of $5,000 per claim, which includes up to $1,000 of cover per item for your personal items as well.18

There are lots of different styles of motorcycles that we cover at Youi – from scooters to sports bikes and cafe racers. The make of motorbike that has the lowest average annual insurance premium with Youi is Peugeot, at around $298 per year.

How we calculated the number above

  • The information displayed is based on Youi internal data for Comprehensive policies sold for that motorcycle make between 30 March 2022 and 29 March 2023.
  • To improve how useful our data is, we only calculate our average premiums on makes where Youi data is available on at least 10 sold Comprehensive policies for that make.
  • As you would expect, we get some higher or lower premiums based on different risk ratings, so any indicative figure does not represent all Youi customers.
  • Premiums and offers to insure are subject to rating & underwriting, and your own individual circumstances.

The year your bike was manufactured can have an impact on your insurance costs. This is because motorcycle insurance premiums are calculated based on, among other things, how much it would cost to repair or replace your bike.

To get the most accurate info about keeping your motorcycle covered, start a quote today.

Your age and the number of years you’ve held a motorcycle licence will both be considered when you start a quote with Youi. This is because younger riders are typically more likely to be involved in accidents, which is why the insurance premiums for teens and young adults tend to be higher.17

Any valid motorcycle licence which complies with Australian law is acceptable.

You can add hire car cover to your policy. The hired vehicle will be a car rather than a motorcycle and there are terms and conditions which apply.
Please note: this option is not available for Third Party Property Only policies.

If your motorcycle requires emergency repairs or towing (including storage) as the result of any insured event, we cover the reasonable costs involved when you have Comprehensive or Third Party Fire and Theft cover.

If necessary, we also pay the costs of emergency accommodation and/or transport following an incident if we agree to pay your claim.

Similar to our driver policy for car insurance, any rider can use your motorcycle. We classify riders as:

Regular Rider
The regular driver is whoever rides the motorcycle most frequently. There can only be one regular rider and they are noted as such on the policy schedule.

Listed Riders
A Listed rider is someone who you have told us about and who is noted on the policy schedule. These riders use your motorcycle less often than the regular rider as described above.

Unlisted Riders
These are people who are not listed on the policy but who could occasionally ride your motorcycle. An unlisted rider excess applies if the rider is not listed and you need to make a claim. In some circumstances, we may not cover unlisted riders – we will tell you if this is the case.

Some other people who might ride your motorcycle:

Learner Riders
Learner riders are covered provided they have a valid licence. There isn’t any cover however if any form of payment is received for teaching someone to ride.

Test Riding
If a potential buyer requests to test ride the motorcycle, you will need to ensure that the motorcycle is kept safe.

Service Providers
When the motorcycle is under the care of a service provider we will extend cover to employees of that business who operate the motorcycle as part of their service. This includes valet parking, cleaning or a licensed automotive workshop.

When we nominate and authorise the repairer to carry out repairs to your motorcycle, we will guarantee the repair quality for however long you own it.

Your motorcycle will be replaced with a new one (or we will pay the replacement cost) if within 2 years of you first purchasing it new, the motorcycle is a total loss.

An excess payment is made when you make a claim. The following excesses may apply to your claim and will be shown on your policy schedule:

Basic Excess
The first amount payable by you on any claim

Additional Excess
In some circumstances an additional excess may be applied to your claim.

Unlisted Rider Excess
If the motorcycle was ridden by a rider who is not noted on the policy schedule (and who is not otherwise excluded) and additional Unlisted Rider Excess will apply.

One Excess
If you make a claim for the same incident on more than one Youi policy, you’ll only need to pay one excess. The incident must be a single event that occurs at the same address and time, and the applicable excess will be the highest excess amount noted on the relevant policies.
