Optional cover

Some drivers prefer reduced excess in the event they need their windscreen replaced. Others need a hire car to keep life on track. With our optional add-ons, you can shape your Comprehensive car insurance policy to suit your needs.

Not all options are available on every policy, so just ask us if there’s an option that interests you and we can add it to your comprehensive car insurance quote.

Reduced excess for windscreen claims

Chipped or cracked windscreen? We’ll lower the excess for claims solely involving windscreens, window glass or sunroof glass if you choose to add this option.3

Hire car cover for other insured events

Even if you’re at fault, get a compact hire car for up to 21 days while your car is being repaired when you add this optional extra onto your Comprehensive car insurance or Third Party Fire & Theft policy.6

Campervan/motorhome contents

With this option, we’ll cover the contents inside your campervan or motorhome – to the lesser of its replacement cost or $1,000 per item – if they’re lost or damaged due to an insured event.6

What’s not covered

We’re upfront about what isn’t covered by our Comprehensive car insurance, so there are no extra surprises.

For the full list of exclusions, see our Product Disclosure Statement.

Damage due to poor materials or workmanship

We don’t cover failed repairs due to poor materials or workmanship – unless we’ve authorised the repairs under our Quality Guarantee.5

Incidents outside your coverage period

If an incident happens before your policy starts or after it ends, we won’t cover it.

Drivers who shouldn’t be driving

Safety on the roads starts with the right people behind the wheel. If someone without a licence borrows your car or they’re driving under the influence, we won’t cover it.

Damage that builds over time

We don’t cover wear and tear, rust, corrosion, or deterioration. Damage caused by mould, rot, or damp is not covered unless it’s directly tied to an insured event, such as flood or storm, for which we’ve accepted a claim.4

Want the full list? Consider our Car PDS to decide if this product is right for you.

No. Your Youi Comprehensive policy only covers the vehicle listed on your policy. It doesn’t cover you if you drive another person’s car.

To learn more about what Youi’s Comprehensive car insurance does and doesn’t cover, explore our guide on what comprehensive car insurance is or read our Car Insurance PDS.

If you have Comprehensive car insurance with Youi, Roadside Assist is automatically included. That means you’re covered for emergency assistance if your insured vehicle breaks down.

However, car insurance itself does not cover mechanical breakdowns.

Youi Roadside Assist exclusions, limits and additional fees may apply. Cover is not available within 24 hours of taking out – or upgrading to – Comprehensive cover. Consider our Car PDS to decide if this product is right for you.

Yes. The costs of windscreen repair – or replacement – is covered by Comprehensive car insurance policies if it’s caused by an insured event.

Keep in mind that you may have to pay an excess for this.

We may also give you the opportunity to add the reduced basic excess for windscreen Claims for an extra premium when you take out a Comprehensive car insurance policy.

This allows you to pay less excess on claims that solely involve windscreen, window glass, or sunroof glass.

At Youi, your Comprehensive car insurance premium is calculated using a range of factors, including, but not limited to:

  • your driving history
  • where your car is kept
  • the make and model of your car
  • your car’s usage – private or business
  • the excess amount you choose

Read our guide on how much car insurance costs. Or start a car insurance quote for a more accurate idea on how much you’ll pay for a car insurance policy with Comprehensive cover.

Yes – when you buy a Youi Comprehensive car insurance policy, we give you the option to choose how much car insurance excess you pay from the available options.

Opting for a lower excess means paying less if you claim for an insured event. But, it will increase your insurance premium – which is the amount you pay monthly or annually – to maintain your Comprehensive cover.

Read our article to learn more about the factors that can impact your car insurance premium.

The difference between comprehensive, third party, and CTP cover is what they cover and how much they cost.

  • Comprehensive covers damage to your own car and others’ property, plus events such as theft, fire, hail and storms.
  • Third Party Property Only covers damage your car causes to others’ property – not your own.
  • Third Party Fire & Theft covers damage your car causes to others’ property, plus cover for fire and theft of your own vehicle.
  • CTP (Compulsory Third Party) is legally required and covers injuries and death to other people in an accident you cause – but not damage to any vehicles or property.

Compare the different types of covers available in Youi’s car insurance policies to see which suits your needs and budget – or start your car insurance quote with Youi today.

At Youi, we classify the people who can drive your car under your policy as follows:

  • Regular driver – the person who drives the car most often and is named on your policy
  • Listed drivers – people specifically named on your policy
  • Unlisted drivers – people with your permission to drive the car but not named on the policy

If an unlisted driver has an accident in your vehicle, an unlisted driver excess may apply. In some cases, cover may be limited to listed drivers only. In other, less common situations – such as allowing someone to test drive your car if you are selling it – you may be covered. Read our Car Insurance PDS for more details.

Yes. When getting a car insurance quote, we’ll ask you about how you use your car, so try to have this information on hand when you start a car insurance quote:

  • private use – social, domestic, or commuting
  • business use – driving for work, earning income, or using your car for commercial purposes

We may be able to offer you cover in either case.

We accept most current and valid Australian and international driver's licences – as long as they’re recognised under Australian law.

  • Agreed value – the fixed amount we agree to insure your car for, shown on your policy schedule. This includes any accessories or modifications fitted or made to the car.
  • Market value – the reasonable and expected cost of replacing the car with a car of the same or a similar make, model, mileage, and condition immediately before an insured incident covered by your policy. Market value includes any factory-fitted accessories.
