Optional cover

Some drivers prefer reduced excess in the event they only need their windscreen replaced, others might need a rental car to keep life on track after an insured event. With our optional add-ons, you can shape your Comprehensive car insurance policy to better suit your needs.

Not all options are available on every policy, so if you’re interested in an optional cover, just ask us and we’ll advise what’s available for your Comprehensive car insurance quote.

Reduced excess for windscreen claims

Chipped or cracked windscreen? We’ll lower the excess for claims solely involving windscreens, window glass or sunroof glass if you choose to add this option.1

Hire car cover for other insured events

Even if you’re at fault, we’ll organise a compact rental car for a total hire period of 21 days while your car is being repaired when you add this optional extra to your Comprehensive car insurance policy.6

Campervan/motorhome contents

With this option, we’ll cover the contents inside your campervan or motorhome – to the lesser of its replacement cost or $1,000 per item – if they’re lost or damaged due to an insured event.6

Comprehensive car insurance FAQs

Got questions about our Comprehensive car insurance? We have the answers.

Whether or not Comprehensive Car insurance is right for you and your car will depend on a range of factors. These include whether you could afford to repair your car if it was damaged – for example in a car accident or a collision – or if you could afford to replace your vehicle if it was stolen.

Our 2024 Car Care & Costs Report shows that 77% of drivers have comprehensive vehicle insurance for their car – but that doesn’t automatically mean it’s the right choice for every vehicle or driver.

You might like to explore our guide on what comprehensive car insurance is to help you decide whether comprehensive coverage is worth it for you and your situation.

As Youi’s highest car insurance cover, Comprehensive car insurance provides coverage for a wide range of insured events, including:1,2

  • Natural events such as storms, hail and fire
  • Theft and attempted theft
  • Intentional damage and some other malicious acts
  • Accidental damage, including damage sustained in a car accident or another type of accidental collision, such as reversing into a post.1,2

What isn’t covered by Youi’s Comprehensive car insurance?

  • Repair of defects, poor workmanship or faulty design7
  • Incidents that happen outside your period of cover
  • Drivers who are not legally permitted to drive your car
  • Gradual effects of climate or weather, such as mould, rot and damp.2

Limits, fees and exclusions may apply.

No. Your Youi Comprehensive policy only covers the vehicle listed on your policy. It doesn’t cover you if you drive another person’s car.

Yes. Youi Roadside Assist is automatically included in our Comprehensive insurance, so you’re covered for tyre changes, a flat battery and towing, if you need it, provided the incident occurs more than 24 hours after your policy starts.4

If you have Youi Roadside Assist, youcan arrange emergency assistance by giving us a call on 13 11 17, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.4

Yes. The costs of windscreen repair – or replacement – is covered by Comprehensive car insurance policies if it’s caused by an insured event.1

Keep in mind that you may have to pay an excess for this.

We may also give you the opportunity to add the reduced basic excess for windscreen claims for an extra premium when you take out a Comprehensive car insurance policy.1

This allows you to pay less excess on claims that solely involve the windscreen, window glass or sunroof glass.1

The cost of comprehensive vehicle insurance depends on a number of factors – including the type of car you’re insuring, your driving history and the excess amount you choose – so it will vary from policy to policy.

For a more accurate idea, you might like to start a Comprehensive car insurance quote.

At Youi, your Comprehensive car insurance premium is calculated using a range of factors, including, but not limited to:

  • Your driving history
  • Where your car is kept
  • The make and model of your car
  • Your car’s usage – private or business
  • The excess amount you choose

Read our guide on how much car insurance costs, or start a Comprehensive car insurance quote for a more accurate idea on how much you’ll pay for a car insurance policy with Comprehensive coverage.

Yes – when you buy a Youi Comprehensive car insurance policy, we give you the option to choose how much car insurance excess you'll pay from a range of available options.

Opting for a lower excess means paying less if you claim for an insured event. But, it could increase your insurance premium – which is the amount you pay monthly or annually – to maintain your Comprehensive cover.

Read our article to learn more about the factors that can impact your car insurance premium.

The difference between Comprehensive, Third Party, and CTP cover is what they cover and how much they cost.

  • Comprehensive insurance covers damage to your car and other people’s cars and property, plus events such as theft, fire, hail and storms.1,2
  • Third Party Property Only covers damage your car causes to other people’s cars and property, plus cover for fire and theft of your vehicle.1
  • Third Party Fire & Theft only covers damage your car causes to other people’s property and cars – not your own.3
  • CTP (Compulsory Third Party) is legally required and covers injuries and death to other people in an accident you cause – but not damage to any vehicles or property.

Compare the different types of covers available in Youi’s car insurance policies to see which suits your needs and budget – or consider starting a car insurance quote with Youi today.

At Youi, we classify the people who can drive your car under your policy as follows:

  • Regular driver – the person who drives the car most often and is named on your policy
  • Listed drivers – people specifically named on your policy
  • Unlisted drivers – people with your permission to drive the car but not named on the policy

If an unlisted driver has an accident in your vehicle, an unlisted driver excess may apply. In some cases, cover may be limited to listed drivers only.1 Read the Car Insurance PDS and your policy schedule for more details.

Yes. When you’re getting a Comprehensive car insurance quote, we’ll ask you about how you use your car, your employment status and occupation, so try to have this information on hand when you’re ready to start a quote:

  • Private use – social, domestic, or commuting
  • Business use – driving for work, earning income, or using your car for commercial purposes.

We may be able to offer you cover in either case.1

We accept most current and valid Australian and international driver's licences – as long as they’re recognised under Australian law.

The difference between Agreed Value and Market Value is how much you’d be paid if your car is written off as a total loss or stolen and not recovered. It works like this:

  • Agreed Value – the fixed amount we agree to insure your car for, shown on your policy schedule. This includes any accessories or modifications fitted or made to the car.1
  • Market Value – the reasonable and expected cost of replacing the car with a car of the same or a similar make, model, mileage and condition immediately before an insured incident covered by your policy. Market value includes any factory-fitted accessories and an allowance up to the amount noted on your policy schedule for after market accessories and modifications.1
