There are three types of cover available for our car, caravan and trailer, motorcycle and watercraft policies.
Comprehensive Cover
Covers loss or damage to the car for insured events as well as your liability for any damage caused by the car to a third party's property.
Third Party, Fire and Theft
Covers your car if it is damaged by fire, theft or attempted theft and earthquake only. There is also liability cover for any damage caused by the car to a third party's property.
Third Party Property Only
Covers liability for damage caused by the car to a third party's property.
We calculate your premium based on many factors, including your claims history. As we give you the best price up front, we don’t use the typical ‘No Claims Discount’ or ‘Rating’ system.
Although we don't have 'free' windscreen replacement, we make sure the excess is affordable by allowing you to choose a reduced windscreen excess.
We insure cars that have been modified to improve performance or handling provided you tell us about them. Examples of modifications we cover include:
- Suspension (raised or lowered)
- Engine (replacement, tuning, turbo, etc)
- Exhaust
- Disability modifications such as lifts and ramps
We also cover the following additions to your car: baby seats, personalised plates, towbars and window tinting.
If you have a Comprehensive policy Youi Assist – Roadside is automatically included and provides emergency roadside assistance. Simply call 13 1117.
We cover the contents of the car (including baby seats) if they are damaged as a result of an insured event. Set limits apply.
This is included when you have either Comprehensive or Third Party Property Fire and Theft Cover.
You are also able to add optional cover for Business Items and/or Campervan/Motorhome Contents where applicable
Anyone can drive your car and we categorise them as follows:
Regular Driver
The person who drives the car most often and is noted as the regular driver on your policy schedule.
Listed Drivers
The people who also drive your car, although less frequently than the regular driver, and are noted as listed as drivers on your policy schedule.
Unlisted Drivers
The people who might drive your car but are not listed as drivers on the policy. If you decide not to list a driver, there is an additional unlisted driver excess in the event of a claim. For some cars, unlisted drivers won’t be covered – during the quote process we’ll let you know if this applies to you.
There are other people who could drive your car and depending on whether or not they are listed on your policy an additional excess may apply. Other drivers include:
Learner Drivers
You are covered to teach someone how to drive provided the driver has a valid licence. Please note you aren’t covered if you receive payment for the tuition.
Test Driving
You are covered as long as you take all reasonable steps to make sure that the car is safe, including going with the prospective buyer if a test drive is required.
Service Providers
You are covered whilst the car is being driven by a valet parking attendant, car wash attendant or an employee of a licensed automotive workshop whilst your car is in the care of that business and no additional excess will be applied.
If your car (typically a four wheel drive vehicle) was designed to drive off-road or on the beach, it will be covered. However, you have to ensure that you drive the car only in a manner and under conditions that are within the manufacturer's recommended guidelines, and that you take reasonable care to prevent loss or damage.
If you have a Comprehensive or Third Party Fire and Theft policy, we will organise a hire car for you after a theft event.
Now we also offer you a Hire Car if you’re involved in an accident where you’re not the at-fault driver. If you have a Comprehensive Policy and another vehicle causes loss or damage to your vehicle, and if we agree that the other driver is at fault, we’ll:
- ask you to give us the name and residential address of the driver of the other vehicle, and
- organise a hire car for you.
You can also include the optional Car hire for other insured events. Conditions apply. Please refer to your PDS for further information.
You can choose between two options when you insure your car comprehensively:
Market Value:
The reasonable replacement cost of the vehicle which is determined at the time of the loss or damage.
Agreed Value:
A specific amount that you nominate. The Agreed Value is noted on your policy schedule.
We accept any current driver's licence, including an international licence, provided it is recognised by Australian law as valid.
If your car is a total loss within 24 months of you purchasing the new car, we will replace it (or pay the replacement cost) with a new one. T&C's apply.
When we agree to pay your claim, we also guarantee all repairs, provided we have chosen and authorised the repairer.
With both Comprehensive and Third Party Fire and Theft we cover the reasonable cost of towing and storage of the car after an insured event. We also pay for emergency accommodation, transport or repairs to the car within set limits.
Unbraked trailer cover is an option that you can add to your cover. Alternatively, our Caravan & Trailer Insurance product might be more suitable.
We need to know how the car is used and categorise the use as follows:
Private Use
Your car is covered when it is used for social, domestic and pleasure purposes as well as driving to and from a permanent, fixed place of work.
Business use
Your car is used as an essential part of any work or business or if it is used to generate income or reward, we may also be able to offer you cover. We will ask you about the way you use your car during the quote.
If we cover your car for business purposes it will be noted as such on your policy schedule.
We email all documents to you including quotes, policy and claims.
We also recommend that you add Youi to your contacts list so that your emails are received. If you are unable to locate an email we have sent you, please check the junk/spam section of your email. For Gmail users, try looking under the promotions tab.
When you first take out a policy with us we will supply you with your policy documentation.
If you require them, we can also provide:
- Certificate of Currency
- Tax Invoice
- Policy Schedule
You can securely view and make certain changes to your policy at any time on our website by clicking ‘Login’
When you take out cover with us, part of the agreement is that you will make payment on the due date/s. These dates will be noted on the policy schedule.
PAYMENT INFORMATION
Payment Method
We take payment via direct debits from a savings and cheque account as well as nominated credit cards.
Payment Frequency
You can pay your premium by one annual lump sum or by 12 monthly instalments.
Our policies normally renew automatically, however if you prefer you can call us to opt out of automatic renewal. We will send your renewal offer to you about four weeks before your current policy ends and continue to debit the premium on the renewed policy using your payment details unless you have opted out of automatic renewal. If you have opted out of automatic renewal you will need to contact us to accept your renewal offer.
If you wish to make changes at renewal (or at any other time during the period of insurance) please call 13 YOUI (9684).
When you lodge a claim you are required to pay an excess. These excesses may apply to your claim and are on your policy schedule:
Basic Excess
This is the initial amount payable by you on any claim
Additional Excess
In some instances an additional excess will apply to your claim.
Unlisted Driver Excess
If the car was driven by a driver who is not noted on the policy schedule (and who is not otherwise excluded) an additional Unlisted Driver Excess will apply.
Windscreen Excess
The windscreen excess is the same as the basic excess unless you choose the option to reduce your excess for windscreen claims.
One Excess
If you have multiple policies with Youi and you lodge a claim for damage that occurs at the same place arising from the same single event, you will only be required to pay one excess
Yes. If you have this optional cover, we will pay for the fair and reasonable costs of repairs as determined by us. These repairs may be carried out by a repairer from outside our repair network.
