From a flat tyre to a dead battery or a car that just won’t go, our roadside assistance will help get drivers out of trouble 24/7. Some limits and restrictions apply – for full details, see the PDS.1

Accidents happen. If they do, know your vehicle is covered for damage caused by you or someone else, or even as a result of a no fault car accident.9

Not all damage is accidental. So if someone intentionally damages your car, that’s covered as well.9

We’ll provide cover for damage to your car caused by a storm, hail or flood.8

From engine fire or electrical fire to bushfire8, if your car is damaged by fire, we’ll cover the cost to replace or repair it where your insurance claim has been accepted.

If someone steals your car – or tries to and causes damage to the vehicle – we’ll cover the cost to replace or repair it.13

As rare as they are here in Australia, earthquakes can still hit and cause major damage. If your car is affected, it will be covered.9

If your car accidentally causes damage to another person’s property, we’ve got you covered for up to $20 million in legal liability costs.11

Following an insured event, we’ll cover the reasonable cost of towing and storing your vehicle at the nearest suitable place to the incident or car accident location.4

If your car isn’t safe to drive after an insured event, we’ll reimburse up to $100 for personal transport from the scene of the car accident or incident, to and from the car’s repairer, or to and from a hire car provider.4

If your car is involved in an insured event and isn’t safe to drive due to damage, and you’re more than 100km from home, we’ll reimburse up to $1,000 for emergency accommodation, transport or repairs.4

We’ll pay for the reasonable cost of a hire car for up to 21 days after theft or attempted theft so you can stay on the move.6

If the driver of another vehicle is at fault in a car accident that causes loss or damage to your vehicle, we’ll cover the cost of a suitable hire car to help you get around. Conditions apply – see the PDS for full details.6

You can choose to add the option to include hire car coverage for up to 21 days for all other insured events.14

Note: This optional cover may not always be available to you. If you ask and we agree to add the option, the details will be noted on your car insurance policy schedule and you’ll be charged an additional insurance premium.

If the keys to your car are stolen, we’ll cover the cost up to $1,000 after excess to replace or recode the car’s locks and keys where your car insurance claim has been accepted.4

We’ll replace the following items that are on or in your car should they be damaged as a result of an insured event and where an insurance claim has been accepted:4

  • Baby seat/s
  • Personalised registration plates
  • Towbar
  • Window tinting.

It’s not just your car that we’ve got covered after an insured event – we’ll also cover the contents inside it if they’re affected, with up to $150 per item and up to $750 for each insurance claim.15

Your unbraked trailer will be covered for its market value up to $1,500 if it’s damaged as a result of an insured event.16

Sold or traded in your current car? We’ll insure your replacement car for up to 14 days after purchase for the same level of cover as the car it replaced. Where you have Comprehensive or Third Party Fire & Theft cover, the most we’ll pay for an insurance claim on the replacement car is its market value up to a maximum of $100,000.17

Car accidents can be overwhelming. We’ll help you support your mental health too, with reimbursement of up to $1,500 per person – including you, listed drivers and household members – toward costs you incur for counselling sessions needed after an incident where an insurance claim has been accepted.6

If a driver of your car sustains a fatal injury as a result of a car accident while driving with your permission, we’ll help the deceased driver’s estate cover costs related to the funeral, burial or cremation. This benefit is capped at $5,000 in any one contract period.

If your business items are stolen from a locked boot or lockable compartment, or damaged in an insured event, our optional cover for business items has you covered. If you’ve selected this option on your car insurance policy, we’ll cover the replacement cost up to $400 for each item, with a maximum amount of $2,000 per claim.18

Note: This optional cover may not always be available to you. If you ask and we agree to add the option, the details will be noted on your car insurance policy schedule and you’ll be charged an additional insurance premium.

If your vehicle is a campervan or motorhome, we’ll cover the contents inside up to $1,000 per item if loss or damage has occurred due to an insured event. The most we’ll pay for each insurance claim is noted on your policy schedule.18

Note: This optional cover may not always be available to you. If you ask and we agree to add the option, the details will be noted on your car insurance policy schedule and you’ll be charged an additional insurance premium.

Car insurance FAQs

Got questions about car insurance quotes, making an insurance claim, or something else? You might find the answers here.

Car insurance works by helping to cover you financially if your car is stolen, damaged, or causes damage to someone else’s car or property. You pay an insurance premium – in return, your insurer provides cover for certain risks or events. This may involve paying for repair, car replacement or liability costs if an insured event occurs and an insurance claim is accepted.

At Youi, your cover will depend on the type of policy you choose. Comprehensive car insurance, for example, covers damage to your car and others’ property, while Third Party Property Only covers liability for damage that your car causes to other vehicles and property.

Car insurance can cover damage to your car, other vehicles or property, and injury to others, depending on the level of car insurance cover you choose.

At Youi, we offer several car insurance coverage options:

Comprehensive
Our highest level of car insurance covers your vehicle for events such as theft13 and fire, car accidents, and some weather events.8 It also provides liability cover if your car causes damage to someone else’s car or property.11

Third Party, Fire & Theft
Covers your car if it’s damaged due to fire8, theft or attempted theft.13 This policy also provides liability cover if your car causes damage to someone else’s car or property.11

Third Party Property Only
Covers the driver’s legal liability arising from an accident caused by the car for damage to a third party’s property.11

Limits, fees and exclusions apply with each type of cover. See our car insurance Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) to compare car insurance options and decide if the product is right for you.

We also offer NSW CTP insurance and SA CTP insurance if you’re based in these states.

In Australia, the only mandatory type of car insurance is Compulsory Third Party insurance – also known as Green Slip insurance in NSW, or CTP in South Australia.

All other types of car insurance – such as Comprehensive, Third Party Fire and Theft, and Third Party Property Only – are optional but might offer important coverage depending on your vehicle and circumstances.

Explore our car insurance PDS for a deep dive into each of the covers we offer under our car insurance product.

At Youi, in addition to the level of car insurance cover you choose, some of the factors we consider to calculate a car insurance premium are:

  • Your driving history
  • Your insurance and claims history
  • Your age and driving experience
  • Your employment status and how you use your car
  • Where you park
  • Your car’s make and model.

Sometimes. At Youi, the colour of your car is something that is taken into consideration when providing car insurance quotes or calculating your car insurance premium.

There could be a few explanations. Insurance Council of Australia research shows that motor insurance premiums have been increasing nationwide since 2019, thanks largely to a combination of rising insurance claims costs and the rising cost of repairs.19

Paying annually instead of monthly or choosing a higher excess might reduce your car insurance premium, and third party policies typically cost less than comprehensive cover, as they cover fewer types of insured events. Just make sure you consider what’s included – and excluded – in each car insurance policy, so you can choose the right level of cover for you.

Excess in car insurance is the amount you need to pay when you’re making an insurance claim. Types of car insurance excess forYoui policies include:

Basic excess
This is the initial amount you pay on each and every car insurance claim.

Reduced basic excess for windscreen claims
You might have the opportunity to pay an extra insurance premium to lower the excess for insurance claims that solely involve the windscreen, window glass or sunroof glass.

Additional excess
An additional excess may apply based on certain circumstances, which will be listed on your car insurance policy schedule.

Driver specific excess
An additional excess may apply based on who was driving at the time of an incident – such as unlisted drivers or young drivers.

Your excess will be shown on your policy schedule. See the car insurance PDS for more details.

You can make a car insurance claim with us online 24/7 – or by calling 13 YOUI (9684). Then you can track the status of your claim online or through the Youi app.

The good news is our 2025 Under the Hood Report shows that 81% of Aussies find the car insurance claims process extremely or quite easy.

For more information on lodging claims, see our Making a Claim page.

To make a claim after a car accident, regardless of whether it’s a no fault or an at fault accident, make sure you – or someone listed on your policy – gather key details, including:

  • Your policy number
  • Location, date and time of the accident
  • A description of what happened
  • Third party details, if applicable

Use our Car Accident Checklist to guide you through what to do while you’re at the scene of a car accident and in the days that follow.

To update your car insurance policy with Youi, log into your account online or via the Youi app –  24/7. As well as updating your policy’s contact details, you can view and manage your policies, and lodge or track car insurance claims.

No – your car insurance policy covers you while you, or another driver, is driving the car that’s listed on your policy.

Yes – at Youi, drivers with a valid driver’s licence, including a learner’s permit, are covered by your car insurance regardless of whether or not they’re listed on your policy – so long as the license type allows them to drive the vehicle and they’re observing the terms of their licence. However, a higher driver specific excess would apply for unlisted drivers aged under 25, if you needed to make an insurance claim for an incident that occurred while they were driving your car.16
