Information about indicative premium ranges and comparisons

When we display the indicative Comprehensive premium range for a car make and model, or offer a comparison of how a model’s annual premium compares to Youi premiums for all models for that car brand, we adopt some important guidelines:

  • The information displayed is based on Youi internal data for Comprehensive policies sold for the make and model between 10 Nov 2023 and 10 May 2024.
  • To improve how useful our data is, we only calculate our average comparisons on models where Youi data is available on at least 10 sold Comprehensive policies for that model.
  • As you would expect, we get some higher or lower premiums based on different risk ratings, so the indicative range does not represent all Youi customers. 80% of applicable Comprehensive car premiums purchased by our customers fell within or below the indicative premium range shown.
  • Premiums and offers to insure are subject to rating & underwriting, and your own individual circumstances.

Interesting facts about Audi

‘Audi’ is the Latin word for ‘listen’

The company we now know as Audi was originally called August Horch & Cie, and was founded in 1899 by the German mechanical engineer August Horch. In 1909, Horch had a disagreement with the board of directors, so he left to found a new car company. He was unable to use the ‘Horch’ name again, so he decided to translate the German word horch (which translates as ‘listen’ in English) into the Latin word for ‘listen’, which is audi.1

The first Audi car was produced in 1910

In May 1910, the first Audi Type A rolled off the production line: the very first car to bear the Audi brand name. It boasted a 22 horsepower output (16.5kW in today’s figures), and it could reach a top speed of nearly 75km/h, which was impressive for its day. Over the 2 years of its production, 137 cars were made, of which only one remains, in the Technical Museum in Prague.2

Audi is a member of the Global Battery Alliance

Founded in 2017, the Global Battery Alliance (GBA) is a public-private collaboration platform to help establish a sustainable battery value chain by 2030. In 2023, the GBA announced the world’s first passport system to ensure ethical and sustainable practices across the entire battery value chain. The ultimate aim of this initiative is to provide end-users with assurance that the battery has been manufactured ethically, and that recycling measures are in place for the end of its life.3

Future Audi cars will have VR entertainment systems

Soon to be a feature in certain Audi models, Holoride is a virtual reality entertainment system that creates an immersive ‘extended reality’ experience for backseat passengers. Using VR goggles, passengers will be able to watch interactive content that’s synched to the motion of the car in real time. The name for this is ‘elastic content,’ and Audi has played a major role in its development.4
