Information about indicative premium ranges and comparisons

When we display the indicative Comprehensive premium range for a car make and model, or offer a comparison of how a model’s annual premium compares to Youi premiums for all models for that car brand, we adopt some important guidelines:

  • The information displayed is based on Youi internal data for Comprehensive policies sold for the make and model between 30 Oct 2024 and 30 Apr 2025.
  • To improve how useful our data is, we only calculate our average comparisons on models where Youi data is available on at least 10 sold Comprehensive policies for that model.
  • As you would expect, we get some higher or lower premiums based on different risk ratings, so the indicative range does not represent all Youi customers. 80% of applicable Comprehensive car premiums purchased by our customers fell within or below the indicative premium range shown.
  • Premiums and offers to insure are subject to rating & underwriting, and your own individual circumstances.

Interesting facts about Jeep

The first Jeep was conceived in 1940

In June 1940, the US Army solicited bids from a number of automakers to create a ¼ ton ‘light reconnaissance vehicle’. The companies Ford, Bantam and Willys responded, and within a year they produced the template for a vehicle that would eventually become known as the ‘Jeep’. Willys-Overland delivered the prototype ‘Quad’ model in November 1940. It was named for the 4x4 system it featured, and the Jeep would eventually emerge from the war years as heroic.1

After WWII, Jeeps were used on farms

From 1945 onwards, the CJ-2A model Jeep was marketed as ‘The All-Around Farm Work-Horse’, since it could perform the duties of 2 draft horses, for 10 hours at a time. This was how the Jeep went from being a military vehicle, to becoming more commonplace in civilian life. Around this time Popular Science magazine also offered cash rewards for ‘Ideas on Peacetime Jobs for Jeeps’, which led to a Model A Jeep being used as an ice resurfacing machine, among other things.1

The Jeepster was immortalised in a T. Rex song

In the late 1940s, the open-bodied convertible Jeepster (VJ) was marketed at women and college grads as a sporty ‘sunshine only’ car. Although it was originally intended to be a low-cost sports car, it ended up costing around $1,900, which was incredibly expensive for the time. In 1971, the British glam-rock band T. Rex famously referred to this car in their song ‘Jeepster’, singing ‘Girl, I’m just a Jeepster for your love.’1

The doors and roof can be removed from a Jeep Wrangler

The Jeep Wrangler is the modern-day descendent of the original Willys MB. The Wrangler JK model’s unique 4-door, open-air design represents the most seamless integration of off-road ruggedness in the 80+ year history of the Jeep brand. The Wrangler has a Jeep Trail Rated® badge certification, which verifies that it can perform in a variety of off-road conditions, offering excellent traction, ground clearance, manoeuvrability, articulation, and water fording capabilities.2
