Information about indicative premium ranges and comparisons

When we display the indicative Comprehensive premium range for a car make and model, or offer a comparison of how a model’s annual premium compares to Youi premiums for all models for that car brand, we adopt some important guidelines:

  • The information displayed is based on Youi internal data for Comprehensive policies sold for the make and model between 30 Oct 2024 and 30 Apr 2025.
  • To improve how useful our data is, we only calculate our average comparisons on models where Youi data is available on at least 10 sold Comprehensive policies for that model.
  • As you would expect, we get some higher or lower premiums based on different risk ratings, so the indicative range does not represent all Youi customers. 80% of applicable Comprehensive car premiums purchased by our customers fell within or below the indicative premium range shown.
  • Premiums and offers to insure are subject to rating & underwriting, and your own individual circumstances.

Interesting facts about Mercedes-Benz

Bertha Benz helped develop the first automobile

When the German engine designer Karl Benz received a patent for the automobile in 1886, it was largely thanks to his wife Bertha who played a key role in its development. She also took her husband’s Patent-Motorwagen out for a spin on a 106km journey to see her mum, stopping at a chemist along the way to refuel with petrol solvent.1

Mercedes-Benz pioneered vehicle safety

Mercedes-Benz engineer, Bela Barenyl, registered almost 2,500 patents between 1939 and 1972 for important vehicle safety innovations.2 One of these was the airbag, which was rolled into production in the Mercedes-Benz S-Class in 1980.3 Mercedes-Benz revolutionised vehicle safety, and many of their inventions are now commonplace across the automotive industry.

Anti-lock brakes first went into the S-Class in 1978

Mercedes-Benz developed the anti-lock braking system (ABS) with Bosch in the early 1970s, and then in 1978 this technology was added to the S-Class. Now standard in all Mercedes-Benz vehicles, ABS prevents brakes from locking up under full pressure, giving the driver more control to avoid collisions.3

The meaning behind the Mercedes logo

While it has evolved and gone through various iterations over the years, the Mercedes-Benz iconic three-pointed star logo is symbolic of the company’s principle of universal motorisation: "on the ground, on water and in the air".4
