Information about indicative premium ranges and comparisons

When we display the indicative Comprehensive premium range for a car make and model, or offer a comparison of how a model’s annual premium compares to Youi premiums for all models for that car brand, we adopt some important guidelines:

  • The information displayed is based on Youi internal data for Comprehensive policies sold for the make and model between 10 Nov 2023 and 10 May 2024.
  • To improve how useful our data is, we only calculate our average comparisons on models where Youi data is available on at least 10 sold Comprehensive policies for that model.
  • As you would expect, we get some higher or lower premiums based on different risk ratings, so the indicative range does not represent all Youi customers. 80% of applicable Comprehensive car premiums purchased by our customers fell within or below the indicative premium range shown.
  • Premiums and offers to insure are subject to rating & underwriting, and your own individual circumstances.

Interesting facts about Nissan

The history of Nissan dates back to 1911

After travelling to the United States to study manufacturing, Masujiro Hashimoto returned to Japan and established the Kwaishinsha Motor Car Works (the forerunner to Nissan) in 1911. The first car this company produced was the 10 horsepower DAT 31, which took its name from the initials of the company’s 3 major investors.1

The ‘Datsun’ name was coined in 1918

In 1918, a new factory was commissioned, and the Kwaishinsha Motor Car Works officially became the DAT Motor Vehicle Company. The first prototype to be produced by this factory was nicknamed ‘Son of DAT’ which eventually became ‘Datsun’.1

Australia’s first Datsun arrived in 1934

By 1933, the company name changed to ‘Nissan’, although its vehicles still carried the Datsun name and logo. The Datsun Phaeton was introduced to the Australian market in 1934, beginning what would soon become a long and successful relationship. As part of an international re-branding program, the Datsun name was phased out in favour of Nissan branding, from 1983 onwards.1

Nissan launched an all-electric car in 1947

As a response to serious oil shortages, Nissan developed and marketed the ‘TAMA’ – an all-electric car with a range of 96 kilometres, which was remarkable for its time. The name ‘TAMA’ came from the place where the factory was located. With a maximum speed of 35km/h, the TAMA worked well as a taxi until 1951.2
