Information about indicative premium ranges and comparisons

When we display the indicative Comprehensive premium range for a car make and model, or offer a comparison of how a model’s annual premium compares to Youi premiums for all models for that car brand, we adopt some important guidelines:

  • The information displayed is based on Youi internal data for Comprehensive policies sold for the make and model between 30 Nov 2022 and 31 May 2023.
  • To improve how useful our data is, we only calculate our average comparisons on models where Youi data is available on at least 10 sold Comprehensive policies for that model.
  • As you would expect, we get some higher or lower premiums based on different risk ratings, so the indicative range does not represent all Youi customers. 80% of applicable Comprehensive car premiums purchased by our customers fell within or below the indicative premium range shown.
  • Premiums and offers to insure are subject to rating & underwriting, and your own individual circumstances.

Interesting facts about Volvo

The first Volvo car was created in 1927

The first Volvo car, officially called the ÖV4, rolled off the production line in Gothenburg, Sweden on 14 April 1927. Because the company believed that no other car company was making vehicles strong or safe enough for Swedish roads, this car was created specifically for Swedish conditions. The ÖV4 was an open tourer with a 4-cylinder engine, and it signified big things to come for the Swedish brand.1

Volvo introduced the 3-point safety belt in 1959

Designed by Volvo engineer Nils Bohlin, the 3-point safety belt was installed into the series production of the Volvo PV 544 in 1959. Volvo made the decision to waive its patent rights so that everyone could benefit from this safety innovation. It’s estimated that over 1 million lives have been saved since the 3-point safety belt was introduced.1

Volvo analyses real-world crash data to create safer cars

Since the 1950s, Volvo has studied more than 43,000 cars in real-life accidents, with 72,000 occupants. Through studying this data, Volvo’s research team became aware that women are more likely to be injured in a car crash, partly because male crash test dummies were, for a long time, standard. With the Equal Vehicles For All (E.V.A.) initiative, Volvo has shared the results of their research, to make cars safer for all people, including women and children.2

Sustainability has been important to Volvo since 1945

In 1945, Volvo started renovating old gearboxes at a workshop located in the Swedish town of Köping. Today, the Volvo Cars Exchange System offers one of the most extensive ranges of remanufactured exchange parts. In 1972, Volvo made a declaration at the UN’s first Environment Conference that it was determined to take action to address its impact on the environment. Today, all new Volvo cars are available as partially or completely battery powered.3
