If you do ask and we agree to add the optional cover, we’ll note the details on your policy schedule and there will be an adjustment to your premium..

Burnout of electric motors

With Comprehensive policies, there’s optional cover for the cost of repairing or replacing electric motors that are permanently fitted to your caravan or trailer, if they burn out due to mechanical, electrical or electronic breakdown or failure, or a power surge, up to $1,000 after excess.12

Business items

Carry and store business items in your caravan or trailer? This optional cover provides cover of up to $1,000 per business item that’s lost or damaged in an insured event. You can add it to Comprehensive or Third Party Fire & Theft caravan insurance.11

What cover do we offer in your state?

Select your state or territory to learn about the caravan and trailer insurance we offer.

Caravan and trailer insurance in NSW

You’ll need to make sure the vehicle towing your caravan or trailer has Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance. In NSW, this is called a Green Slip. If you or another person driving your vehicle are at fault for an accident where someone is injured or killed, your CTP Green Slip covers their compensation claim for medical treatment and lost income.13 Youi offers CTP insurance for NSW drivers – call us on 13 9684 or consider starting a quote.

It’s worth noting that a Green Slip doesn’t cover your caravan or trailer for any damage – or if it damages someone else’s property – so it might be worth considering caravan or trailer insurance in case something unexpected happens. Youi offers three levels of caravan or trailer insurance: Comprehensive, Third Party Fire & Theft, and Third Party Property Only. Start a quote to see how much it might cost to keep your caravan or trailer covered in NSW with Youi.

Caravan and trailer insurance in QLD

In Queensland, Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance is automatically included when you pay to register a vehicle. This provides financial cover if the insured vehicle causes an accident that injures or kills someone.14 It might be worth checking that the vehicle towing your trailer or caravan is appropriately insured.

CTP doesn’t cover damage to your trailer or caravan, or damage it might cause to someone else’s property in an accident.  To see how much it might cost to keep your caravan or trailer covered in Queensland with Youi, explore our caravan insurance options and consider starting a quote.

Caravan and trailer insurance in VIC

All Victorian vehicles need Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance – also known as the Transport Accident Charge – and it’s included in your vehicle’s registration cost. This covers you if you cause an accident that kills or injures someone, regardless of whether you’re towing your van or trailer at the time.15 From there, consider taking a look at Youi’s car insurance options to see what additional levels of coverage are available for your vehicle.

Separate insurance for caravans isn’t compulsory in Victoria, but CTP insurance doesn’t cover your trailer or caravan if it’s damaged, stolen or damaged someone else's property, so it might be worth considering trailer or caravan insurance in case something unexpected happens. Explore our caravan insurance options and see how much it might cost to keep your caravan or trailer covered in Victoria with Youi, start a quote.

Caravan and trailer insurance in WA

Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance is mandatory for drivers in WA – it covers you financially if someone dies or is injured in an accident that’s your fault.16 Once your CTP is sorted – as it does not cover damage to the other persons vehicle or property – consider taking a look at our car insurance options to see if one suits your needs.

You might want to consider Youi’s caravan and trailer insurance options too, to keep your caravan or trailer covered for a range of unexpected events. If you’re not sure what level of cover is right for you, call us on 13 9684 or consider starting a quote.

Caravan and trailer insurance in SA

All SA vehicles have to have Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance. If you’re at fault in an accident where someone is injured, CTP insurance covers their compensation claim for medical treatment and lost income, whether or not you’re towing your trailer or caravan at the time.17 Youi offers CTP insurance for SA drivers and you can choose to nominate us as your future SA CTP insurer anytime via EzyReg. From there, consider taking a look at Youi’s car insurance options to see what additional levels of cover are available for your vehicle.

CTP doesn’t cover your caravan or trailer for any damage, loss, or damage to property so it might be worth considering a separate caravan or trailer insurance policy. To find a level of cover that suits you and see how much it might cost, start a quote.

Caravan and trailer insurance in ACT

The vehicle you use to tow your trailer or caravan will need Motor Accident Injury (MAI) insurance, which is the ACT’s equivalent of Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance. It covers you financially if someone dies or is injured in an accident when you’re at fault.18 On top of this, you can choose a level of additional car insurance cover that suits your needs.

You might also want to consider getting separate trailer or caravan insurance, to cover your caravan or trailer for damage in an insured event.  To see how much it might cost to keep your caravan or trailer covered, explore our levels of cover and consider starting a quote.

Caravan and trailer insurance in TAS

In Tasmania, the vehicle towing your trailer or caravan needs Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance, which is handled by the Motor Accidents Insurance Board (MAIB). This cover provides benefits if someone is injured or killed in a motor vehicle accident – whether you’re towing your trailer or caravan at the time or not.19

CTP doesn’t cover damage to your car or your caravan or trailer, so you might want to consider additional car insurance, as well as a separate caravan or trailer insurance policy. To find a level of cover that’s right for you and work out how much it might cost, start a quote.

With a Comprehensive or Third Party Fire & Theft caravan insurance policy, you choose the insured value of the caravan.6 Your policy schedule will show the amounts and details of your insured property.

If you have caravan insurance with Youi and you need to make a claim, the most we’ll pay for repair or replacement of the caravan is the lesser of the market value or the insured value that’s shown on your policy schedule, except where we’re paying a claim for New Caravan Replacement.5

At Youi, there are three levels of cover available for trailers: Comprehensive, Third Party Fire & Theft, and Third Party Property Only trailer insurance. To get more information about our trailer insurance options, give us a call on 13 9684 or consider starting a quote.

If your caravan is deemed a total loss – for example if it’s been stolen and not recovered – or it’s been damaged to the extent that it’s not economical or safe to repair, what happens next depends on your caravan insurance policy.

Our Comprehensive and Third Party Fire & Theft caravan insurance options provide cover for total loss in certain circumstances, including if your caravan is stolen, for instance.6 Please check your policy or read the PDS for more information.

If you have either of these caravan insurance policies and suffer a total loss following an insured event within 2 years of it being bought new and registered, or documented in your name as the first owner, we’ll replace it with a new caravan of a make, model and specification as close as possible to the insured one. If there’s no readily available replacement, we’ll pay you a cash equivalent amount.5

Any repairs to the caravan which we arrange, authorise and pay for will come with Youi’s caravan insurance repair quality guarantee, for as long as you own the caravan.19

At Youi, we include cover for contents inside the caravan, up to $1,000 per claim after excess, with a maximum of $150 for perishable food.3 If you have Comprehensive or Third Party Fire & Theft caravan insurance, you can also choose to upgrade your level of contents cover.11

Note: Contents cover isn’t available with Third Party Property Only caravan insurance policies.

At Youi, we classify the way you use your trailer as:

  • Private use: You use your trailer for social, domestic or pleasure purposes. We’ll cover the trailer when it’s used privately.
  • Business use: You use your trailer as an essential part of your work or business, or it’s used to generate income or reward. We can also offer you trailer insurance cover in this situation.

We’ll ask about how you use your trailer when you’re getting a trailer insurance quote. If we cover your trailer for business purposes, this will be noted on your trailer insurance policy schedule. For more information, please read the PDS or give us a call on 13 9684.
