Explore our Building and Contents insurance for a full list of policy inclusions.

Youi defines ‘building/s’ to mean the private domestic residence and other structures at the premises, including permanently attached fixtures, fittings and structural improvements, but excluding earthworks.13

We define ‘contents’ to mean the personal possessions that belong to you which are kept inside your private domestic residence – including fitted carpets, curtains and blinds – or kept inside other structures at the premises that are fully enclosed and lockable and that you have exclusive use of. If you own a strata title property, contents can also include the fixtures and fittings that are not legally part of the building, such as kitchen and bathroom units.13

Understanding these definitions and descriptions might help you choose which type of Youi Home insurance is right for you – and get a more accurate home insurance quote.

How much your home insurance costs depends on several factors. These can include the address, house type, its size and the year it was built. Your premium will also depend on the level of home insurance cover and excess you choose.

Yes, Youi offers Buildings Accidental Damage cover and Contents Accidental Loss or Damage cover as optional add-ons to our building insurance and contents insurance policies. These will attract an additional premium.7

This means you can expand your home insurance coverage to suit your circumstances, if you need to.

You nominate the total sums insured for your buildings and contents, which are then covered for repair or replacement on a new-for-old basis up to those amounts. The amount/s will be listed on your policy schedule. For your buildings sum insured, you can get an estimate of what it would cost to rebuild your house with the Cotality Sum Sure calculator to help you complete your home insurance quote.

At Youi, we give you the choice to add optional covers such as Contents Accidental Loss or Damage, which covers your contents anywhere you take them. See our PDS for full details.

If you have Youi contents insurance, high-value belongings like artwork are automatically covered up to $15,000 per item. If the item is worth more, you can list it with its specific replacement value.7

Jewellery isn’t automatically included in your contents cover. If any individual jewellery item, pair or set is worth more than $15,000, you’ll need to list its replacement value. For other jewellery valued at $15,000 or under, you can set a lump sum value for the total replacement value for all jewellery items (except for those already individually specified). You may also want to look into Accidental Loss or Damage as an optional cover to protect your jewellery when it’s worn or taken away from your home.7

At Youi, when you make a claim and it’s accepted, you’ll be required to pay an excess – this will be the combined total of the basic excess, and any other applicable excess listed on your policy schedule. Here’s a brief breakdown of the different types of excess that may apply:

  • Basic excess: The first amount you must pay for every claim made under your home insurance policy. You may be able to choose your basic excess amount when setting up your policy.
  • Additional excess: Sometimes we may require an additional excess to be paid in certain circumstances listed in your policy schedule.
  • Delayed notification storm excess: An additional excess – listed on your policy schedule – may apply if a claim is made on your buildings policy under the insured event of storm more than 90 days after the incident occurred.
  • Unoccupied excess: If at the time of the incident covered by your policy, the property has been unoccupied for more than 60 continuous days, an additional excess – listed on your policy schedule – will apply.

Youi’s building insurance covers the cost of temporary emergency repairs needed to make your home safe and secure – and prevent further damage – following an insured event.6

  • Landlord’s Loss of Rent
