Unprecedented wild weather in NSW has resulted in residents recently being hit by their fourth catastrophic flood in just 18 months. Here at Youi, we get how devastating these events can be to our customers and their communities. That’s why we’re onto it when it matters most. Committed to helping those who’ve been affected, getting things sorted to get their lives back on track.
What to do if your home is damaged by floodwaters
Returning home to a flood affected property is a uniquely heartbreaking experience. The laundry list of what you need to do next can seem endless. In those first moments, keep these critical tips in mind:
Above all else, your safety and the safety of others is paramount. Only return to your home once emergency services have given the all clear, and be aware of any hazards that may have appeared. If water has entered your home, do not turn on any electricity until your home has been inspected by an electrician.
Ensuring you document as much as possible in those first moments is critical. Take as many photos as you can of any damaged items and the home itself. Make a list of any items that have been damaged and note any details about their brand, model and serial number.
Contact your insurer
Contact your insurer as soon as possible after inspecting the damage. Also notify your insurer if you are in severe financial hardship as a result of the flood, so they can explore available support options.
Youi’s commitment to NSW and QLD flood victims
In multiple ways, Youi has shown its commitment to supporting those affected by devastating floods. We recently donated $100,000 to the Red Cross in order to provide immediate support to QLD and NSW flood victims. Within our own organisation, we scaled up the number of advisors on the phones in our call centre and assessors on the ground, so Youi customers could get their claims dealt with even faster
