Protect yourself with Third Party Fire & Theft car insurance

Here at Youi, we don’t assume what you need as part of your car insurance policy. We give you the power to decide what’s important to you. Our Third Party Fire & Theft car insurance protects you in the event your car is stolen or damaged by fire, or if you cause damage to someone else’s property.

What’s included?

Our Third Party Fire & Theft insurance is jam-packed with features to help you out when you need it most.

Towing costs

After an insured event, the last thing you want is more stress. So if your car’s damaged and can’t be driven, we’ll cover the cost of towing it to, and storing it at, the nearest suitable place for safekeeping, for example a nearby repairer or salvage yard.4

Emergency accommodation, transport and repairs

Over 100km from home and can’t safely drive your car after an insured event? We won’t leave you stranded. We’ll reimburse you up to $1,000 for your combined emergency transport, accommodation and repair costs.5

Contents inside the car

It’s what’s inside that counts. If items inside your car are lost or damaged due to an insured event, we’ll cover them – up to $150 per item and $750 per claim.2

Temporary replacement cover

When you replace your car, we’ll transfer your insurance cover across to your new car for up to 14 days after you get rid of the old one.6

Unbraked trailers

Rest assured, if your unbraked trailer is damaged in an insured event, we’ll cover it up to $1,500 as part of your car insurance policy.4

Counselling services

Being in a traumatic accident can take its toll on people’s mental health. That’s why we’ll reimburse you, your household members and listed drivers with up to $1,500 per person for counselling after an accepted claim.6

Locks and keys

Don’t stress if your keys are stolen. We’ll cover the cost of replacing or recoding the car locks and keys to a maximum of $1,000 to get you moving again ASAP.2

Hire car following theft

Is there anything worse than having your car stolen? Maybe, but it’s still awful. If your car can’t be driven due to someone stealing it, or trying to steal it and causing damage, we’ll cover the cost of a hire car where your claim is accepted. Limits apply.2

Legal liability

If your car causes damage to someone else’s property, we’ll cover you for up to $20 million in legal liability. It includes when your car is towing a trailer or caravan too.6

Personal transport

If your car can’t be driven after an accident, we’ll reimburse you up to $100 to get you home from the scene, or to and from a repairer or hire car provider.2

Need a little something extra?

Life’s hard as it is – don’t make dealing with accidents and unexpected events trickier than it has to be. Here are some extras you can add on to your Third Party Fire & Theft car insurance policy for even more peace of mind.

Your choice of repairer

We get it. Sometimes you have a mechanic that you just know and love. Although we have an extensive network of great repairers, you can let us know if you want to select your own and we’ll add it on to your car insurance policy for an extra fee.7

Optional hire car for Other Insured Events

Not being able to drive your car for a while can be a hassle. Add this optional extra onto your policy to get a hire car for up to 14 days for a range of other insured events (even if you’re at fault).7

Stolen business items

While having your business impacted can be a pain, we’ve got an option to make it a little less painful. Choose to add business items to your Third Party Fire & Theft car insurance policy and we’ll cover up to $400 per item and $2,000 per claim if your business items are stolen or damaged in an insured event. Limits apply.7

Campervan contents upgrade

If you’re living the (camper)van-life, we can cover you in the event your campervan’s contents are stolen or damaged due to an insured event. Choose this optional extra to cover the things inside for up to $1,000 per item. Limits apply.8

A Third Party Fire & Theft car insurance policy includes, among other things, cover for accidental damage to, or loss of, your vehicle caused by a fire or theft. It also covers your legal liability for damage to other people's property caused by the use of your car.

Whether it’s worth getting Third Party Fire & Theft car insurance will depend on your own needs, situation and location.

If you live in a neighbourhood with a fairly high crime rate or in an area with a high Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) rating, then taking out Third Party Fire & Theft car insurance could be a very wise idea.

You may always need access to a car (to get to work, for example) so taking out a car insurance policy that offers car hire after theft or damage could be an important factor in your decision.

Third Party Property Only insurance does not cover as many incidents as Third Party Fire & Theft insurance.

Third Party Property insurance doesn’t cover loss or damage to your own car caused by fire or theft, whereas Third Party Fire & Theft does.

Third Party Property insurance is used mainly to cover your legal liability if your car damages someone else’s property.

This depends on your circumstances, but it’s worth remembering that Third Party Fire & Theft car insurance doesn’t cover you for any accidental damage caused to your vehicle.

This means that if you cause an accident, you’ll be covered for the damage you’ve caused to another person’s property, but you’ll be responsible for paying for your own car’s repairs.

Third Party Fire & Theft car insurance is calculated by taking a number of different factors into account. Here are some of them.

  • How old you are. If you’re a young driver (under the age of 25) you may have to pay more for your car insurance.
  • Your car. The make and model, value, age, condition and even the colour of your car all play a role in how your Third Party Fire & Theft insurance is calculated.
  • Where you live. For example, if you live in an area with a low crime rate, you’d likely pay less for your car insurance.
  • Demerit points incurred. The number of demerit points you’ve incurred on your licence could impact the cost of your car insurance.
  • Your insurance history. How long you’ve had active car insurance with other companies could also have an impact on your premium.
  • Your driving history. If you’ve been involved in any car accidents or incidents in the past three years (whether you made a claim or not), this could impact your future cost.
  • Where your car is usually parked in the day and overnight. Whether you park your car in a garage, on the street, in a carport or another location will play into your insurance cost.

The main thing you can do to potentially reduce the cost of your Third Party Fire & Theft car insurance policy is to increase your excess. A higher excess means you’ll pay more when you have to claim, but will reduce your premium.

We cover the contents of the car (including baby seats) if they are damaged as a result of an insured event. Set limits apply.2

This is included when you have either Comprehensive or Third Party Property Fire & Theft cover.

You are also able to add optional cover for Business Items and Campervan/Motorhome Contents where applicable.

If you have a Third Party Fire & Theft policy, a hire car is only available after an approved claim involving theft. Additionally, you can include optional car hire for other insured events. Conditions apply. Please refer to your PDS for further information.
